Scoring & FoldingScoring is the method of intentionally indenting lines on paper stock so production has greater control over how print is folded. Scoring also limits creasing and other damage associated with folding printed paper. Scoring is essential on paper stock over 120gsm, without scoring folding becomes more difficult and the paper will crack and white lines will appear.
Why fold paper? Creating flyers or brochures which are folded allows you to spread information over several pages. It enables you to tell a story and dedicate whole pages to specific topics. Unfolding print also adds a level of interaction. Finally folding print produces a smaller final size. This is ideal for print which needs to be large but at the same time hand-held or pocket sized. Examples include event day flyers which fold out to a map.
